Our Story

Guardians of the land - A farm in the heart of Wales

When we bought Birchfield in 2006 we inherited Mervyn. Mervyn the beekeeper, one of the loveliest humans you can come across. Along with Mervyn came his 15 hives and of course the bees that live in them. We agreed to continue the agreement that had been in place with the previous owner, that we would be paid in honey for the bees to stay with us. This made us smile, there is something inherently good about an old-fashioned cashless trade and of course, we love eating our honey from our bees well Mervyn’s bees we’ve adopted them as our own! All 450,000 of them. After spending the past 15 years taking on the guardianship of this little patch of Wales, farming sheep, and a few cows we think it’s a pretty special place and we hope you think so too.

We would love to share the story of the bees on our farm and in our habitat spaces, our hedgerows - wildlife super highways, trees, Ponds, and of course the Honey!

We see ourselves as the Guardians of this land for the time and are lucky enough to be fit and healthy enough to be able to work the land. We are farmers, and farming runs through our blood as it did for generations of our families before us.

We’d like to invite you to join us in the guardianship of these acres to help:
